Driving routes from Medellín
- Oriente tunnel: usually the fastest. Leave via Las Palmas, take the tunnel and drop down toward the airport and Rionegro.
- Las Palmas: the traditional road over the Las Palmas pass to Rionegro.
- Santa Elena: Medellín, Santa Elena, the airport, Rionegro and El Carmen. Slower but scenic.
- Medellín-Bogotá highway: through Belén (Rionegro). Useful if you come from the north or further east.
From Rionegro it is about 10 km more to El Carmen. The tourism office estimates about 90 minutes from Medellín. Buses and fares are in getting there from Medellín.
By bus
Flota El Carmen is the local bus company. It has a ticket window at Medellín's North Bus Terminal (Terminal del Norte) and runs buses, vans and minibuses between Rionegro and El Carmen. In El Carmen, buses to Rionegro leave from Carrera 31 and Calle 32.
