Food
Where to eat in El Carmen de Viboral
Hearty Antioquian mountain food, farm fruit and cafés around the square. Do not expect fine dining; do expect big portions and small-town prices.

What to try
- Arepa de chócolo (sweet corn arepa) with fresh cheese, the town's classic snack.
- Homemade cheese and sweets, sold in shops and at the market.
- Bandeja paisa and other Antioquian dishes at lunch places.
- Cool-climate fruit such as blackberries, strawberries and goldenberries (uchuva) grown in the countryside. Order a juice made with milk.
Where to look
Almost everything is in town, between the main square and Carrera 31, the same area as the ceramics workshops. You will find set-lunch restaurants, bakeries, cafés and fast food places that stay open late on weekends.
We would rather not list restaurants by name until we can visit them. In the meantime, check recent reviews on Google Maps and look at the dates, since businesses in town open and close often.
Heading to the Melcocho River or the Valley of Waterfalls? Bring food. There are few places to buy anything in the canyons, and some only cook if you book.
If you are staying
Some hotels in town have their own restaurant, such as Alfahar and Casa Rose according to their Booking.com listings. Compare them in hotels in El Carmen de Viboral.
