Rural villages and viewpoints of El Carmen de Viboral

The municipality climbs from 800 m in the canyons to over 3,000 m on the border with Sonsón. In between are 56 rural communities of crops, flowers and mountains.

The three viewpoints

The tourism office promotes three rural lookouts: Alto de La Florida, Alto de La Madera and Alto de Boquerón. They have trails for walking or cycling and show how the land is shared between crops, pasture and forest.

La Chapa

South of town. At the Nuevo Horizonte rural school, clay kilns from the old Júpiter factory, where pottery was fired, are still standing. They are one of the most important physical traces of the town's ceramics history.

Alto Grande and La Aurora

Rolling farmland very close to town. The area grows potatoes, beans, corn, avocado, blackberries, strawberries, tree tomato and export flowers, which are the biggest source of farm jobs.

Quirama

Quirama is home to the Recinto Quirama, a convention center and country hotel run by Comfenalco Antioquia, surrounded by gardens. We compare it with other options in hotels in El Carmen de Viboral.

Going further

The Santa Rita veredas in the east drop into the Melcocho River canyon; La Aguada, in Santa Inés, overlooks the Valley of Waterfalls. To stay in the countryside, see farm stays, cabins and glamping.
